Transition effect

Harmonic mixing

Restrict next-track picks to harmonically related keys. compatible is the classic Camelot rule (same position, ±1, or relative major/minor) — broadest pool. strict only allows the exact same key. neighbour walks the wheel one step at a time, no mode flips. mood change swaps major↔minor only (energy stays, mood flips). energy boost picks +2 around the wheel — each track is two semitones up, so the set lifts over time. Pick off to disable the harmonic filter completely.

Beatmatch

Pitch-stretch the incoming track up to ±8 % so its BPM matches the outgoing track during the crossfade — beats line up like a real DJ deck.

Phrase align

Snap the crossfade start to the nearest 8-bar boundary using the cached beat grid. Keeps transitions on musical phrase ends instead of mid-bar.

Outro / intro align

Auto-detect each track's outro start + intro end on first play. Crossfade lands between them so the new track's first downbeat replaces the old track's outro — no cold cuts into 4-bar intros.

Playback

EQ-ducked crossfade

Bass-cut the outgoing track during the overlap so its kicks don't muddy the incoming track's bass. The trick pro DJs use when manually mixing.

Pick mode

How AutoDJ picks the next track. Similarity picks the closest sonic neighbour to whatever just played. Entropy walk picks the most sonically distant track instead — A → far(A) → far(far(A)) → … — so the set drifts through the library rather than clustering around the seed. Random walk picks uniformly at random and ignores similarity, key, BPM, and energy entirely. Switch back to Similarity mid-set and AutoDJ resumes from the song currently playing.

Anchor to seed

Every next pick stays similar to the seed track (the song the session started from), not to whatever just played. Prevents the long sonic drift you get from chained similarity hops, while still letting Discovery break out periodically when enabled.

Show lyrics

Display timed (LRC) or plain lyrics in the Lyrics card and the CLI panel.

ReplayGain normalisation

Apply embedded ReplayGain track-gain tags so every track plays at a consistent loudness. Tracks without tags play unchanged. Targets −14 dB (Spotify-ish reference) by default.

Wall-clock daypart

Bias next-track picks toward the BPM and energy of the active built-in daypart (morning / midday / afternoon / evening / night). Time-of-day driven; runs forever. Ignored when an explicit preset or mood arc is active.

Mood arc (warmuppeakcool)

Set-relative envelope: warmup, build to peak around 75 % of the arc, cool down, then loop. Anchored to the moment you toggle this on. Stacks above daypart — when both are on, arc wins while a session is in progress.

Mood arc length (hours)

How long one full warmup-peak-cool cycle takes before the arc loops. 3 h matches a standard club set; 1 h works well for short sessions; 6+ h gives a slow festival-style ramp. Changing this re-anchors the arc to "now".

Auto-import DJ-software cues

On the first cache load, scan for Mixxx (mixxx.db), Rekordbox (Library.xml export), and Traktor (collection.nml) libraries in your music folder and the standard per-OS user-data locations, then merge any cues found into AutoDJ's auto-detected ones. User / DJ-software cues win on conflict.

Beat-sync transition FX

Snap rhythmic transition effects (echo, dub delay, beat repeat, gate stutter, stutter build, sidechain pump, transformer, scratch) to the beat grid + size their internal events to whole bars at a tempo blended from the outgoing track to the incoming track. Envelope effects (sweeps, risers, drops, reverbs) bar-round their fade duration. Falls back to seconds-based timing when no beat grid or BPM is known.

Key-sync pitched FX

Tune oscillator-based effects (air horn, dub siren, ring modulator) to the song's root note, lerping outgoing-to-incoming root in log space across the fade. Effects on tracks with no detected key fall back to their hardcoded reference frequency.

Beatmatch on skip

When you press Skip, pitch-stretch the incoming track so its tempo matches the outgoing one (preserves musical pitch). Without this, skipping mid-track cold-cuts to the new tempo. Capped at +-15% so wildly mismatched tracks don't sound silly. Browser-only — CLI server-audio mode can't pitch-stretch on the fly.

Audio output device

Pick which sound card / headphones the browser plays through. Works in Chromium / Edge (full support) and Firefox 116+. Safari has not shipped setSinkId yet — it falls back to the system default. Browsers hide device names until you grant microphone permission once: click Show device names to do that (the permission is released immediately, no audio is captured). Selection saved per browser in localStorage; the server-side CLI player has its own --device flag and [playback] audio_device config.

Transition mode

Mirrors Mixxx's AutoDJ transition modes. Full intro/outro aligns the start of the incoming intro with the start of the outgoing outro and sizes the fade to whichever marker is shorter — best when both tracks have detected intro and outro markers. Outro fade begins the fade at the outgoing outro_start and uses outro length only. Fixed (skip silence) uses the Crossfade-seconds value but trims leading silence on the incoming track and trailing silence on the outgoing. Fixed is the legacy fixed-length behaviour.

After queue empties, seed from

When a manual queue plays out, where similarity picks resume. Last queued track (default) treats your queue as steering: the auto-DJ continues in the new direction. Track playing before queue rewinds and seeds from whatever was playing when you first added to the queue, so the queue acts as a detour.

Key notation

How the current track's key is shown in the now-playing badge and the advance log. Camelot is the Mixed In Key wheel notation used by most DJ software. Musical uses letter names (C, A minor, F sharp minor). The wheel SVG below the now-playing card always renders Camelot positions because the wheel itself is Camelot-shaped.

Use flats

When checked, accidentals render as Db, Eb, Gb, Ab, Bb. When unchecked, they render as C#, D#, F#, G#, A# — which matches the spelling most DJ tag editors emit.

Crossfade seconds

How long the gain ramp between tracks lasts. 2-3 s feels natural for most music; 5-8 s for ambient or testing transition effects. 0 = instant cut.

Fade-in seconds

How long the incoming track takes to reach full volume. 0 = incoming track starts at full volume immediately when the crossfade begins (no ramp-up). Capped at crossfade length.

Periodically injects a sonically distant track to break the auto-DJ out of a similarity loop, picking at random from the bottom quartile of cosine similarity.

Voice liners

Drop-in spoken clips that play over the live mix every so often, like a real station ID. Drop audio files (mp3, wav, ogg, m4a, flac, aac) into the configured folder, then set how often to fire and which rotation to use.
